Google is Adding Buttons with New AI Features to its Search Homepage

Google has officially confirmed a limited test introducing new shortcut buttons directly beneath the search bar on its homepage, designed to direct users to "AI Mode" and similar advanced tools. Targeting desktop users, this new interface experiment makes it easier for users to discover capabilities such as image generation, file analysis, and brainstorming directly through the search engine.

What Buttons Are Included in the New Test and How Do They Work?

Positioned at the bottom of the search bar and next to the plus (+) sign on the left, these new buttons provide a direct transition to Google's AI Mode. The test includes three core features that users can try out:

• Create images: Allows users to quickly generate images using text-based prompts.
• Ask about files: Enables interaction with artificial intelligence using uploaded documents or files.
• Brainstorm: Provides AI support to generate ideas or accelerate creative processes.

Google Vice President of Product Robby Stein stated that this experiment is a small-scale test conducted on desktop and in no way alters the operating logic or functionality of the main search bar. While the experience of typing text and pressing enter remains unchanged for users with classic search habits, the new shortcuts serve entirely to highlight alternative AI tools.
